Our Daily Bread- Road Construction; July 23, 2013. By: Julie Ackerman Link

We have been delivered from the law, . . . so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit. —Romans 7:6

Here in Michigan we joke that we have two seasons: winter and road construction. Harsh winters damage road surfaces, so repair crews begin their work as soon as the ice melts and the ground thaws. Although we call this work “construction,” much of what they do looks like “destruction.” In some cases, simply patching holes is not an option. Workers have to replace the old road with a new one.

That’s what it can feel like when God is at work in our lives. Throughout the Old Testament, God told His people to expect some major renovation on the road between Him and them (Isa. 62:10-11; Jer. 31:31). When God sent Jesus, it seemed to the Jews as if their way to God was being destroyed. But Jesus wasn’t destroying anything. He was completing it (Matt. 5:17). The old way paved with laws became a new way paved with the sacrificial love of Jesus.

God is still at work replacing old ways of sin and legalism with the way of love that Jesus completed. When He removes our old ways of thinking and behaving, it may feel as if everything familiar is being destroyed. But God is not destroying anything; He is building a better way. And we can be confident that the end result will be smoother relationships with others and a closer relationship with Him. —Julie Ackerman Link

Free from the law—O happy condition!
Jesus has bled, and there is remission;
Cursed by the law and bruised by the fall,
Grace has redeemed us once for all. —Bliss

Upheaval often precedes spiritual progress.

Banana Cream Pie! Yum. – Aug 2012

I don’t know where i got this inspiration. I’ve always loved banana, and never really tried them on a dessert before. Prior to making this pie, I’ve never even tried a banana cream pie! but out of nowhere, i typed the name to Google, searched for the recipe, watch the YouTube demo, and decided it’s too yummy to not be made.   I mean….BANANA! and CREAM! and PIE!   what’s not to love about them? and i thank God that i decided to bake this recipe because……………….it’s my favorite dessert to date. Like, i cannot imagine my life without having tasted this heavenly mixture of banana custard and cream. Vanilla Shortbread with Crème fraîche and Orange Slices – Sept 2012

there’s no interesting story behind one, really. I was just watching various baking videos on youtube and came across this recipe by Gordon Ramsay, a famous, talented, brilliant chef.

it turned out very delicious! my sister in law wants me to bake another one of these..but i just haven’t had the time yet. Besides, the oranges hasn’t been in season that much.

The reason it’s so delicious is because of the wholeness of this recipe. You have to eat it altogether. The way the crispiness yet soft biscuit with a hint of sourness in Crème fraîche as well as the sweetness of the oranges and icing sugar just blends and melts perfectly. Heavenly. Totally recommended!

Vanilla Crêpe with Caramelized Banana – Sept 12

So somewhere between Angel Food Cake and this…. i made something horrible called orange meringue pie (which failed miserably and terribly). It took some time for me to recover..LOL

and for my next quest…. i chose this, because i was inspired by one of Häagen-Dazs’ menu, Banana Crêpe Encounter. I love everything with banana, so this choice was a no-brainer. Another reason as of why i chose this is because, it’s very simple to make yet heavenly to taste.

without further adeu, this is my journey with the recipe!

Angel Food Cake! – July 2012

I always had a thing for baking. Last year, i started baking as a new hobby. I never had a lesson, or even tried it, but my mom loves baking. Her signature pastry is the infamous Egg Tart, which is loved by all my family and her closest friends. They always want more. Including my friends, who had tasted it.  So i guess, that’s where my interest came from. from my lovely mom.

For my first attempt at baking, i chose Angel Food Cake because of a silly reason. It’s so silly, that it’s almost embarassing to admit here. But whatever, i’ll say it anyway.

….It’s because i saw the name on The Sims 3 while i was playing it…(mind me, i was on 3 months holiday and did not know what to do)

so i searched for the recipe online..baked it..and did not forget to document every step of it(mostly). And today, i decided to share it with you guys.

Please keep in mind that this is my first ever attempt at baking..(ok my mom helped a little bit because i was still unfamiliar with the terms and whatnot… but mostly me) that’s why, it doesn’t look as appetizing as it should. maybe i should bake it again sometimes in the future.

Here it goes:

oh and to answer the question you have in mind:

it is, surprisingly, delicious!

Academic Writing Assignment – “What do you think is the most alarming/disturbing problem in your society(school, neighborhood, country)? What do you propose to solve the problem? Use specific reasons and details to support your answer!”

A developing country is defined as “a country that is poor and whose citizens are mostly agricultural workers but that wants to become more advanced socially and economically”. One example of a developing country is our country, Indonesia. We are still struggling and striving to be a developed country and with it come its own problems. One of the most alarming problems this country is facing is corruption. With Indonesia’s current vague governmental law and policies, many people are “freely” corrupting our nation’s money for their own benefit. Furthermore, the government lack of disciplinary acts to those who corrupt give them more opportunities to corrupt and flee. Therefore, we need to find a way to fight corruption, to banish them, to eradicate them. Solving corruption can be done by increasing transparency of money allocation by the government, clarify the governmental law and policies regarding corruption, and last but not least, improving each one’s personality.

First, increasing transparency of money allocation can be by tracking the flow of money by reporting in detail each expense made by the country. This report is the source to ensure accountability and avoid unwanted money laundering. Then, the report needs to be published publicly so that the people as the taxpayers have the access to know and analyze where their money is going and what it is for. By doing this, a lot of people will take part in keeping the country clean, thus the margin of criminals trying to corrupt the money out of people’s taxes will be reduced to almost none.

Then, Clarifying governmental law and policies regarding corruption can be tricky. First we need people with the right purpose and the right stance on corruption to be making these kinds of decisions. Thus, we need to choose carefully who represents us in the government by knowing their visions and missions in their campaigns as the people’s representatives. Then, we need the laws and policies to be clear. Each sentence should provide the clearest meaning and orderly methods for money allocation procedures. They should also provide no loopholes in the laws and policies to avoid self-justification to those who corrupt. Last but not least, we need to increase the penalty and conviction to those who are proven to be corrupt and really be disciplined with it. When facing these corrupt criminals, no mercy or exception should be made, but justice should be served. Therefore, corruption level can be pressed down to practically none because people will be too busy to avoid jail time and severe punishments.

Last but definitely not the least; one’s personality plays an important part when we want to fight corruption. This can be achieved through education and spiritual development. With the right education, people will understand their rights to not be fooled by corrupt people, thus they can get justice and amend no corruption. With the right education, people can also find new opportunities to learn and explore a wide variety of job options to gain money legally without having to corrupt. Moreover, Indonesia is a religious country. Thus, most educational institutes will have to provide spiritual lessons that can guide students to increase morality and therefore help them to find and stand by the right stance regarding corruption. Last but not least, spirituality will help evolving individual to have a strong sense of what is right and wrong. Therefore, the “true” spiritual people can directly contribute to reduce the corruption level in Indonesia, because they will always do the right thing.

To conclude, solving corruption can be done by increasing transparency of money allocation by the government, clarify the governmental law and policies regarding corruption, improving one’s personality. To sum up the key point to fight corruption, it all comes back to one’s personality. With the right personality, one’s decision will be made to do what’s best for his country and its people. This is the right beginning and only way that can make it possible to reach the desired goal
